So sorry to offend you, Mr. Comic Book Connoisseur.

My point is that the story doesn't need to be adhered to exactly, for it to be considered a "guild wars" story. There's alot of story potential out there that the games really just don't touch on at all, such as specific griefings between Kurzicks and Luxons...the reason for their hatred towards each other. Also, the land of Orr, the conflicts between them and the Krytans, etc. Why are the Enchanted so hostile? Why are there good Forgotten and Bad Forgotten? What's the deal with the enemy ghostly hero in Dunes? Why is he an enemy? The conflict between the deldrimor and the stone summit. Why are the stone summit such assholes? Why are the mursaat such assholes? Aren't they just doing what they feel is right according to their ancient beliefs, boundless knowledge and power? Are they all just mindless drones or do they have personalities?

So much there to touch on and make stories out of, it's almost neverending.

? not offended.

but theres a difference between having thousands of stories to pick from and characters with decades of character development behind them and something like "...Why are the stone summit such assholes?..." its like asking "why is Bison/Vega such a asshole?" and that generally in game to movie ports results in script writing along the lines of "because he is evil and wants to take over the world (muahahaha)"

theres lack of depth and well...

now lets look at comics : "why is magneto evil?"

"why does spiderman bother?"

"whats up with Hellboy?"

admitedly there have been a truckload of comic inspired movies that were nearly as shit as your regular videogame port and who knows maybe GW could make a decent movie but barring the overall universe itself you would have to start from pretty much scratch.

My very oversimplified question of Why are the Stone Summit such assholes is pretty much a question asking where the feud between the two sides come from? Then, you expand on that by creating a backstory, some characters, hash out some battles and whatnot...and you have yourself a nice little mini-movie or side story in a much larger film.

I'm not expecting a huge trilogy like LOTR, because LOTR has been around much much much much longer, and has a much much much much larger fanbase than GW. But...what's to say you can't sit down, hash out a story revolving around the land of tyria, involving various heroes and villains in the game stories that all seem to come together anyway in some shape or form? A game isn't very personal...it doesn't have time to be. You can't sit down and get to know your character outside your own imagination...the game tells you about other characters and you just play a spectator. You're an Extra in a larger film about Rurik, Togo, mhenlo, Kormir...etc. You can go as big or as small as you want in something like this...those other video-game movies fail because they didn't think outside the box...they felt they HAD TO follow the story or make the movie look exactly like the game in order to attract the same fanbase.

If they were to make a Halo movie, I wouldn't expect it to be a live action + CG rehash of the exact plot in the games. I'd expect some differences.

Final Fantasy Spirits Within: Was a really good story. I liked it. The movie was damn good too...you got to know the characters. Why don't other people like it? I really don't know...it followed the general principles of the Final Fantasy universe. Maybe because it didn't have familiar characters from the games? Maybe it was a little too sci-fi and not enough fantasy? No magic...it's just spirits/ghosts and technology clashing. No deep link between the main character and the antagonist, other than a seed planted...no personal relationship with any tangible villain. But it was still an excellent story nonetheless. A GW movie could very well be a hit, but it could also be a Dud...it all depends on how much effort, money, and love Anet wants to put into it. I've made comments on here and elsewhere that Anet only cares about the buck. Well...there are some things out there that show me that they really do care a little about the principle of the game, the story, and the fans who love it. Whether they would choose to put this into another form of mass media, that's yet to be seen.

As long as they do not make plain detritus like they did with things like Super Mario Bros or Street Fighter...

Brrr... just thinking about those...

well if any1 read book 1 of the guild wars manuscripts you would know that gw has a very awesome and unique story that would fit perfect to be published into a book and/or movie.
hopefully both.

If you weren't such a hypocrite, you'd know that people also have the freedom of speech to say whatever they want to about your idea, whether you like it or not.

The street fighter movie pissed me off. It was just too wrong. E-honda wasn't pasty white. Ryu and Ken weren't all that muscular. Chun-Li didn't show off her sexy legs.... Dhalsim was a professor and not a witch doctor>??? I think Jean Claude would be the only one to suit the character he was given, go Guile!! The animated movie, however.... damn that was awesome!!

I'm a little skeptical about a Guild Wars movie. I would encourage that Anet make one (but not for like another 5 years)

or just make the movie last during battles of the searing, starring Adain, Devona, Mhenlo, and Cynn. maybe adding in Eve or some other chars. Also add in Prince Rurik.

I'm pretty sure freedom of speech does not include what's permitted on a private forum...

NO.

Almost every movie that has originated from a game has been terrible.

It should be made into a very short film.
Also it should play like a comic I once read about what real life would be like if it were an MMO.

"How do you breathe in this game?"
"Press Help"
"I'm not doing that it's for noobs just tell me how to breathe"
<suffocate, die>

Not exact quotes, I read it a long time ago but that was the general gist of it.

I do think that the Guild Wars idea could lead to a very interesting movie idea and storyline. However, trying to meld the elements of the game in wouldn't work.

I think for a movie about Guild Wars to be successful, the only thing that it has about Guild Wars in it would be the names of the lands and the general topography... And possibly some skale.

Surprised nobody mentioned Silent Hill on their list? The movie was supposedly so impressive that they actually considered (but later rejected, thankfully!) remaking the original game based on the movie based on the game?

But if there should ever be a GW movie, it has to be animated and based on the (mis)adventure of our 5 henchies. Cynn also has to spend 5 seconds casting Meteor Shower in it. I don't care on what, mobs or Mhenlo.
